SEMINAR SESSIONS ICF and Building Code Changes 2016 On September 20th, the HBRA offered a look into the world of ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms) with a special presentation by Leigh Overland of Leigh Overland Architect. Attendees learned more about the advantages of ICF that offer 50%-70% savings in energy consumption and costs. These hollow foam blocks are stacked into the shape of the exterior walls of a building, reinforced with steel rebar, filled with concrete and then brick, stucco, rock, or siding is attached to the outside. On the inside plumbing and electrical are run through the foam itself after the walls are poured. Drywall is attached to the inside, then finished with trim, flooring, and other finishes. In the end a home looks like any other, but performs 1,000% better. Thanks to Leigh and to Ring's End for hosting this fact- filled seminar. 26 | HBRA of Fairfield County | October 2016
