HEAD COACH NOTES A very warm welcome to everyone visiting Gorton Street today. Eccles RFC play host to both West Park St Helens and Manchester Rugby Club for fixtures at 1st & 2nd team levels so we’ve a real action-packed afternoon ahead for you all. Eccles 1XV will be looking to build on last Saturday’s first half display against against Ormskirk, to guide them to a second win at the start of the 2021/22 season against today’s opposition West Park, who will be hoping to improve themselves after last weekend's defeat to our South Manchester neighbours Didsbury Toc H. Our 2XV team welcome Manchester 2s and injured Captain John Hibbert will be looking for a more consistent performance from his men after a strong first-half last weekend against Bowdon where Eccles lead 0-7 at the break. The Eccles men deserve credit for playing short a man for the full 40 against a Bowdon 15 with a revolving door of replacements and as fatigue set into the Eccles’s men’s legs late on the hosts were inevitably able to pile on the points resulting in a scoreline that didn’t fully reflect the game. The start of the season has been far from ideal, with Holidays, Music Festivals, injuries and other commitments all influencing player availability, preparation and team selection. However the strength in depth has been really good to see, especially from our young men stepping up to not only pull on the 1st XV shirt but actually make a significant contribution to the team success on the pitch. A mention here must go out to our former colts Jay Christey, Ryley Thornton, Daniel Reed, Tallis Keeler and Oliver White who in their first season of senior rugby have contributed hugely with their personal performances. # Homegrown Sam Simpson // Eccles RFC Director Of Rugby
