SOCIAL EVENTS Over the weekend of 20th to 22nd August, the club hosted the 10th Annual Eccles Beer & Gin Festival. With every Salford brewery represented, attendees were met with a dazzling array of cask ales, porters, stouts and ciders plus 40 different options of Gin for their approval. Friday night started things off with a 'meet the brewer' event, when our primary sponsor and neighbour, First Chop, sent down 3 of their brewers to talk us through production of their wonderful range and Salford Live broadcast an interview with Martin, Dave, James and Rowanne to the socialsphere on all things Eccles RFC. On Saturday, Chris and Don organised the inaugural '100 Years of Hoops’ Mens Rugby Tournament. With teams represented from the four quarters of our wonderful County. Leigh defeated Vale of Lune in a closely contested final to be the first winners of the cossetted trophy, the Eccles (Bucket) Cup! Our 'homegrown' musicians Moonlight Rumours lit up the Saturday evening, with their eclectic take on modern classics, (their words, not mine)!, as the record crowd found its dancing feet to bring a very successful and enjoyable day 2 to a conclusion, despite the rain. Sunday morning saw families turn up for one of Marie's famous brekkos. They were joined by a number of Saturday attendees, bleary eyed and a little the worse for wear, to enjoy a family fun day culminating in a cricket match involving kids, adults and numerous dogs ! What a weekend! Close to being our best ever Festival. We began with 21 firkins of beer in the cellar and were left with just over 1 firkin! Special thanks to all our sponsors, in particular First Chop, and our very small army of hard working volunteers. Well done and good health to Martin, Marie, Hilary and team who co-ordinated a well-oiled machine to deliver a seamless event to the well-oiled!
