CHAIRMAN’S WELCOME A warm welcome to all our supporters and visitors at Eccles RFC today. At long last, after an 18-month suspension, it's great to finally have competitive Rugby fixtures back at Gorton Street, and not just one match to enjoy, but two! Our 1XV men will be looking to build on their positive start last Saturday at Ormskirk with a home victory in the ADM premier Division against West Park St Helens. I was especially proud of the youthful first team that took to the field last week, many of them former colts who I’ve had the pleasure of coaching, now stepping up to pull on for their first taste of senior rugby in an Eccles shirt. As we return from the disruption of Covid I’m sure many North West clubs will find that they are missing many experienced names from their team sheets and facing a weekly struggle to raise teams. Let's hope our rugby community is able to recover by attracting players back to the game. Here at Eccles, it’s an exciting time for us as we look to the fruits of our own deep rooted well established junior section to become the future home-grown talent of the club. The blending of youth and experience will also be a feature of our new 2XV team this season. Today the Eccles 2s will face Manchester Rugby Club who I am sure will provide a strong challenge for the points. Regardless of the results I look forward to seeing you all in the bar after the match, where you can enjoy a glass of first class ale from our match sponsor and local brewer First Chop. I hope you enjoy your match experience here today and you keep returning throughout the season to support our teams. All players (and referees) enjoy encouragement from the touchline. Please be generous with your appreciation. All things prosper with effort. Let’s get stuck in! Chris Gaffey // Eccles RFC Chairman
