QUEENSLAND NETBALL QUEENSLAND The Confident Girls Foundation supported the Diamond Spirit Program, a school-based initiative using netball to strengthen cultural connection, build confidence, and improve educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls in Years 7–12. In 2025, the program expanded to a second school: Marsden State High School – 28% increase in attendance Bremer State High School – 17% increase in attendance A major highlight was an 8-week cultural program for Year 8 students at Marsden, designed to re-engage a previously disengaged cohort. One student reduced absences from 25 to 10 days in Term 3 while achieving straight As. Across both schools, 22 students graduated Year 12, successfully attaining their QCE, demonstrating the program’s impact on engagement, confidence, and educational outcomes. SUNSHINE COAST LIGHTNING In 2025, the Confident Girls Foundation supported the Sunshine Coast Lightning STEMM (Supporting Teenagers with Education, Mothering and Mentoring) program, focusing on the physical, emotional, and social wellbeing of young mothers. Participants engaged in connection-based activities, including sensory music classes designed to strengthen the bond between mothers and their children through play, music and shared experiences alongside Sunshine Coast Lightning players. A four week self-defence program was also delivered, equipping young mothers with practical skills and confidence to support their safety and wellbeing in real-life scenarios. The program concluded with a graduation celebration recognising participants’ resilience and achievements, while reinforcing a strong sense of community. Additional wellbeing activities, including yoga and nutrition sessions, continued to support participants throughout their journey. 15 |
