NORTHERN TERRITORY The Confident Girls Foundation supported Netball Northern Territory (Netball NT) across a range of initiatives in 2025, creating opportunities for First Nations athletes, emerging officials and athletes with an intellectual disability. Indigenous Netball Carnival – Darwin More than 250 players, coaches, managers and umpires participated in the Indigenous Netball Carnival across six age groups, with participants travelling from communities across the Northern Territory, including Alice Springs. The carnival celebrated culture, connection and community through a combination of netball competition and cultural activities, including a Welcome to Country by Larrakia man Ruben James, a traditional pandanus weaving workshop led by Bininj elders and activities supporting the NO MORE campaign against domestic and family violence. The carnival continues to serve as a key talent identification pathway for Netball NT’s First Nations Netball Academy, with 46 athletes invited to join the program in 2025. Ten of these athletes were selected to travel to South Australia to compete in the Nunga Netball Carnival, further strengthening development opportunities and representative pathways for First Nations athletes. Green U18 Initiative Launched during the Indigenous Netball Carnival, the Green U18 initiative promotes respect and support for young umpires, encouraging participants, coaches and spectators to create positive learning environments both on and off the court. Dragonflies – Marie Little Shield Netball NT’s Dragonflies team represented the Territory at the 2025 Marie Little Shield in Brisbane, bringing together ten athletes with an intellectual disability and three officials to compete at a national level. The team secured a win during the tournament and finished seventh overall. Beyond competition, the program builds confidence, develops skills and strengthens connections for athletes, families and carers. 11 |
