PAGE PAGE 12 CIMARRON TRAIL CIMARRON TRAIL 2017 AUTOCROSS RECAP 2017 was an outstanding year at autocross! We had lots of fun and learned some great driving skills along the way. 2018 promises to be even better! For those that missed the Christmas party, the 2017 overall Champion was Randy Kaplin and the 2017 Ladies Champion was Beverly Carlile. Congratulations on an outstanding season! If you are curious about autocross, but have never been to one of these events, lack of prior experience is no reason to miss out. Experienced drivers are always willing to ride along with you, and show you the “ropes.” Driving “against the clock” is the perfect way to learn car control and your confidence behind the wheel, which is invaluable in any kind of driving situation. You will be on the course by yourself, which heightens the safe nature of this type of event and the main goal is to improve your time by sharpening your driving skills. The competition is friendly and it’s as much a social event as it is a driving event. Participants who attend at least 8 counting events will receive a 2018 Autocross shirt at the Christmas Party in December. For more serious competitors vying for the season long championship, points from their best 9 of the 12 counting sessions will be totaled to arrive at their final scores.The coveted, or not, Conehead Award, will also be presented at the end of the year to the driver who hits the most cones throughout the season. “If you’re not hitting cones you’re not driving hard enough”-Gary Bernard Practices and clinics are FREE! Counting sessions are $10 each. Come on out, and let’s have some fun! I want to extend a huge thank you to everyone that helps out at the events, be it set up, break down, time keeping and spotting; I could not do it without you! I would also like to thank our head driving instructor Gary Bernard for helping out with the walk throughs and tips for all the participants!
