THE MALDEN ADVOCATE–Friday, October 25, 2024 Page 13 ~ Mystic Valley Regional Charter School ~ Eagles Take Down Wildcats in Three Sets By Emily Brennan T he Mystic Valley volleyball team needed only three sets (25-16, 25-12, and 25-21) to defeat the Whittier Wildcats Thursday at home. The win improved Mystic Valley's record to 5-11 overall. Fransabelle DaSilva finished with 17 kills to lead the Eagles. Maraki Belayneh also pitched in with six kills. Emerson Lyons and Shaymaa Machouk were also a factor for Mystic Valley, serving three aces each to go along with back, scoring seven of the next nine points and taking a 17-11 lead before eventually closing out the set 25-16. SET 1 | The Eagles endured a Shaymaa Machouk furious Whittier rally in the fi rst set, but Mystic Valley bounced fi rst set, Mystic Valley put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a dominant 25-12 victory in set number two. The Eagles took control of the lead early on at 8-5 and held it the rest of the way. Mystic Valley opened its biggest advantage of the stanza, 14 points, to fi nish off the set. The Mystic Valley off ense served two aces in the stanza. Mystic Valley's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking six Whittier attacks in the set. SET 3 | Mystic Valley then fi nished off the match with a 25-21 set-three victory. A solid showing on the attacking side led the Eagles to victory in the set. Mystic Valley registered 10 kills in the set win. After the lead changed hands fi ve times, the Eagles took control for good at 19-16 and rode that advantage to victory.
