Page 6 THE MALDEN ADVOCATE–Friday, September 4, 2026 ~ Malden Musings ~ 2026 Post San Rock Edition By Peter Levine L adies and germs, I present to you my annual post Saint Rocco Musings. Not to disappoint; full of “rambling,” run-on sentences dotted with overly maudlin sentiments sprinkled with a dash of hyperbole thrown in just for kicks. Those who tire easily of San Rock ramblings can take a break from this week’s regularly scheduled program and head straight to the obituaries or the foreclosures (believe it or not, some folks take great joy in reading foreclosure notices!). Let’s have at it, Maldonia — my San Rock 2026 extravaganza where I will once again “ramble on” (nod to Led Zep on that one) and bleed Saint Rocco for all to bear witness. And I think that’s what Saint Rocco means to so many of us who grew up in Edgeworth, Ward 2, and Malden. It’s the continuity of it. It’s knowing that when the calendar turns to that second weekend in August, something very special is waiting for us on Pearl Street. Year after year. Generation after generation. The faces may change, the kids grow up, old-timers become memories, new family members take their places — but somehow, the Feast remains. You can almost set your inner clock by it. For those of us fortunate enough to have grown up here, the feeling of Saint Rocco represents something difficult to put into words. It’s that organic connection to the heart and mind of a neighborhood: a shared memory that binds generations together. It’s childhood, family, friendship, summer nights, music, girls (!), Italian food, fun and a thousand little memories that somehow all come rushing back the moment you step onto Pearl Street. And — maybe, just maybe — that’s the real magic of Saint Rocco. It isn’t simply a Feast. It’s a tradition. It’s a reunion. It’s a piece of our home. And now, another chapter is in the books. Until next August, when the inner clock starts ticking again. Viva Saint Rocco! It is said in Malden Musings... ● Kevin Morrison, how do I/we love thee, let me (and Joyce Mover and the Saint Rocco Committee) count the ways... Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the more than generous donation you made to the Feast. Your kindness is as huge as your personality and that big handsome face of yours! Seriously Kevin, your generosity will not soon be forgotten. Love ya, dude! ● It is NOT a “Festival.” It is a “Feast.” BIG difference. It is the MUSINGS| SEE PAGE 18 With the blink of an eye, another chapter in the long and venerated history of the Saint Rocco Feast has come and gone. Did you hear it was a spectacular weekend?! Of course you did. Hard for me to believe, but this was my 59th year walking the black top of Pearl Street. Fifty-nine freakin’ years (yikes!)! It seems like yesterday on that long-ago Monday night in 1967, big brother Joe took me to the Saint Rocco fireworks at Devir Park on Bruce Field. I was hooked. I’ve been a Saint Rocco regular ever since. Growing up, the Feast was our unofficial summer hourglass. It was that unmistakable point in August when we knew the school year was beginning to creep into view. Summer wasn’t FLEET CARD Check Out Our LOW PRICES!
