Page 10 THE MALDEN ADVOCATE–Friday, June 18, 2021 Stop the Stigma goes all online this year S ince 2014, Malden Overcoming Addiction (MOA) has been bringing awareness to Malden through #MaldenStoptheStigma Day. MOA President Paul Hammersley has always believed that battling addiction starts with youths. In previous years, MOA would visit the Malden Public Schools as well Mayor Gary Christenson and City Hall workers are shown supporting “#MaldenStoptheStigma” Day on June 9. as Chevrus and Malden Catholic, and this year brought challenges as to how the day would be recognized. On Wednesday, June 9, safety dictated an all online Stop the Stigma Day, and Malden out to the West Coast answered the call! Stop the Stigma Day is about shattering the stigma associated with substance use disorders. MOA offers a variety of resources to help people who are struggling to get sober and stay sober – through scholarship programs, recovery coaches and the newly opened Bridge Recovery Center located at 239 Commercial St. in Malden.
