THE MALDEN ADVOCATE–Friday, April 30, 2021 Page 3 Malden actor Mark Linehan selected for playwriting contest A new play written by Malden-based stage actor Mark Linehan was recently selected to be performed in the Boston Theater Marathon, an annual event that will stream online this year on Monday, May 3. This is Linehan's fi rst time being selected for the program. The Boston Theater Marathon showcases 10-minute plays written by New England playwrights in collaboration with New England theatres. Linehan’s original play, “Backyard Duel,” will be sponsored by the Titanic Theatre, directed by Fran Weinberg and performed by actors Ruva Chigwedere and Damon Singletary. Any donations received will benefi t the Theatre Community Benevolent Fund, which assists artists in times of need. Linehan is a member of the Actors’ Equity Association (AEA) labor union and co-chairs the Malden Cultural Council. North Shore Black Women’s Association announce 2021 Scholarship Applications in memory of Peggy Morovitz T he North Shore Black Women’s Association has announced that the 2021 Scholarship Applications are now available to Malden high school students. The scholarships will be honoring the memory of Peggy Morovitz, wife of Lester Morovitz, owner of Malden Trans. In Malden. The Morovitz family are longtime philanthropists to many local causes in the Malden and Greater Boston area. Eligibility requirements: High school senior with plans to attend an accredited college, university, vocational school and/ or trade school following graduation;, and must be a resident of Massachusetts. - Completed Scholarship Application - One Reference Letter from a supervisor, teacher, pastor, coach, local city leader or family friend (non-relative) - A one page personal statement about yourself (volunteer activity, work, educational goal, family) - Proof of acceptance to the educational facility you will attend - Most recent high school transcript - Include proof of family income (copy of federal 1040 or last two current pay stub for all household members.) - Please note: additional information may be requested. - All Scholarship Applications along with supporting documentations MUST be received by June, 7, 2021.
