THE MALDEN ADVOCATE–Friday, January 16, 2026 Page 7 Malden Neighborhood Basketball League Week 2 — “Purple Reign” Saturday, January 10, 2026 @ Ferryway School Game 1 – Kings 38, Celtics 26 The game opened with the Kings taking an early 8–5 lead, followed by a 5–4 advantage in the second quarter—neither in favor of the Emerald. The Celtics struggled offensively throughout, with no player scoring more than seven points. The Kings, led by A. Greene with 11 points, overcame a difficult night at the free-throw line (4-for-14 as a team) and surged late. A decisive 17-point fourth quarter sealed the victory. Game 2 – Lakers 46, Pistons 34 The Lakers delivered a balanced offensive effort, with an impressive nine of 12 players recording points. J. Dinh led the way with 14 points, while J. Ramirez-Pool added 11 in the win. The Pistons, meanwhile, continued to struggle offensively. After falling behind 40–16 at halftime, no Pistons player was able to reach the eight-point mark. Sunday, January 11, 2026 @ Ferryway School Game 1 – Lakers 49, Bullets 42 The Purple and Gold completed a strong weekend with their second win. J. Dinh once again led the Lakers with 10 points in the league’s oldest rivalry, known as “Day 1 vs. Day 2.” The Bullets held a one-point lead at halftime, but the steady Lakers maintained a consistent pace, scoring 15 points in each quarter. D. Milonopoulos paced the Bullets with three three-pointers and a game-high 17 points, while the next closest teammate finished with seven. Game 2 – Sixers 39, Kings 29 What happened to the Kings? D. Bunch did his part, knocking down three three-pointers and scoring a weekend-high 21 points. Despite outscoring the Sixers 26–14 in the second half— 14 of those points coming from Bunch—the Kings managed only two additional scorers, leading to a tough loss. The defending champion Sixers built a 25– 13 halftime lead, placed six players in the scorebook by game’s end, and cruised to the win. Their double-digit duo was D. Da Cruz (12 points) and D. Bell (10 points).
