Giovanni Pitruzzella was appointed President of the Italian Competition Authority by the presidents of the two Chambers of Parliament on 29 November 2011. Before his appointment, he was an administrative law lawyer. He has been full professor of Constitutional Law since 1994. From 1986 to 1993, he was associate professor of Institutes of Public Law. Throughout the years, he has been President of several Governmental Commissions and of the Independent Authority that regulates strikes in essential public services, obtaining high regard for the institutional accomplishments achieved. He has been legal consultant of parliamentary bodies, ministers and regional governments. In 2013, he was appointed by the President of the Republic as one of the ten experts asked to provide a comprehensive economic and institutional reform program and he was later nominated member of a group of experts asked to provide a broad set of constitutional reforms. He has published six monographs, edited several books, and his articles are regularly published in law journals.
