Year in Review JA ENTREPRENEURS DIVE DEEP Jefferson County Public Schools’ Central High School team members who won the JA Startup Pitch Competition were hired by Mayor Greg Fischer’s SummerWorks program to develop their product idea. Guided by the multi-talented performer and self-proclaimed “geek”, Divinity Rose, the team took a deeper dive into the world of entrepreneurs. The experience included job shadows at manufacturers to learn about assembly; visits with companies like Advanced Solutions, who demonstrated the future of medical devices; input from Amazon, who showed them product fulfillment techniques; talks by entrepreneurs; and hands-on learning of coding, welding, and marketing. Student Dionta McCraney reflected on the experience, “I learned to take chances... sometimes you need to jump off that ledge to see what’s in the water. (That’s) a big thing in business and the market.”
