HE@CRC SPORT (COACHING & SPORTS DEVELOPMENT) Cassie Wicks, 22, former HND Sport (Coaching & Sports Development) student, now studying Sports Coaching Performance at the University of Northampton I am doing a top-up degree at Moulton College, through the University of Northampton. The course was full-on from the start, especially the dissertation, but the research project I did during my HND prepared me well. CRC has very good links with Moulton College so it made the transition easy. After graduating from Northampton I am planning to take a year out to get experience working in a school and then I’ll look into completing a PGCE because I’d like to become a PE teacher. “ Preparation and organisation were key on my HNC and HND courses at CRC, and led to great opportunities and the ability to progress and succeed. More about HE@CRC • Low cost, high value • Small class sizes • High quality vocational teaching • Trusted qualifi cations valued by employers • Apply direct to the college Enquiries Tel 01223 226315 Email enquiry@camre.ac.uk Web www.camre.ac.uk/ higher-education “I did voluntary work coaching rugby to children when I was at CRC and it led to paid employment. I also went on a volunteering trip to Morocco and did some fundraising. I’d advise anyone on the HNC course to think about volunteering and try to choose something that helps your planned career path.” Why did you choose to study HE Sport at CRC? I’d previously studied at the college so it was a place where I felt comfortable. It was in a good location for me to commute and the price in comparison to studying at university was a lot better. ” What did you like about studying at CRC? The teachers were very approachable and the college has very good facilities. The class sizes were good and I enjoyed the variety in assessment and the varied teaching methods. What was the biggest difference between studying at Level 3 and Levels 4 & 5? I found that learning became more of an independent process. The teachers didn’t spoon-feed you, assignments were a lot more challenging and we carried out more advanced lab tests. Group sizes were smaller which enabled more one-to-one time with the teachers.
