From Pastor Zeke Page 1 From the Desk of Pastor Zeke There is a rabbinical proverb that says “blessed is the man that carries the dust of his Rabbi on his feet”. I love this for multiple reasons. First, if we want to know Jesus and experience his presence, we need to spend some time with him. “Christian” means literally “tiny Christ”. How can we begin to understand Jesus and have a relationship with him without spending time with him? We do this by reading stories about Jesus in the Gospel’s and by spending time in prayer and meditation. Relationships take time, energy, and effort. If we want to have a vibrant relationship, it takes these things. Second, we must always be students of the Gospel and of faith. "“Rabbi” means teacher and is a great privilege to learn and grow from Jesus- his teachings and the model he gave us through his life, death, and resurrection. John Wesley, in his sermon title “The Use of Money”, communicated this idea: “You should be continuously learning, from the experience of others, or from your own experience… to do everything you have to do better today than you did yesterday” It is my hope and my prayer that all of us, myself included, would be open to the instruction and guidance of the Spirit in the myriad of ways God reveals Godself to us. -Keep the Faith Strong, Zeke Wesley UMC Newsletter November 2019

Trustees Note, 2020 Commitment Card Page 3 Trustees Note If you use the facilities for any reason please make sure all lights are off, all doors are closed and locked, all appliances in the kitchen (if used) are turned off and the thermostats are set to the right temperature before leaving. In October we found a kitchen light left on, the south double glass door was left slightly open (we believe it got hung on the door mat), and the coffee pot in the kitchen was left on so what little coffee was left in the pot was scorched to the bottom and obviously left a horrible smell. The person in charge of the meeting or group is responsible for making sure all the above items are complete. We appreciate your cooperation in being good stewards of the property. 2020 Commitment Cards have been mailed out. If you did not receive one but would like one please call the Wesley office and let them know or you can print off the below card and turn it in. Wesley has some amazing things at work and your commitments are what help make those possible. Your contributions are what help us pay staff, utilities, maintain the buildings & grounds, and fund programs and missions. Without your help, we cannot do those things. We ask that you prayerfully think about what you and your family are willing to give. Please turn your card into the office or the offering plate on or by November 17th. A.R.K. News Page 4 We have gotten into a great system packing backpack bags at Cavanaugh. We bag each Wednesday at 5:30 in Cavanaugh’s fellowship hall, even during the months Bible Study is at Wesley. 6 or 7 people can get it done in 15 minutes. Thank you to everyone who has helped bag and deliver food. It is no small feet but vitally important providing weekend food for 67 kids. Pastor Zeke went for a swim or 2 or several at Cavanaugh’s Fall Festival. The kids LOVED dunking him and we certainly enjoyed watching it. One Council meets Thursday, November 7 at 6:30 in the Gleaners Room. Anyone is welcome to attend the meetings. They are a great way to find out what’s going on in the church and gives the Council other opinions on matters going on within the church. Wesley UMC Newsletter November 2019

Cub Scouts Page 6 Greetings from Pack 19. October was another busy month for our pack. We wrapped up our annual Trails End Popcorn sale. This was the first year we did "Show and Sell". Scouts spent two days at Quick Discounts and Atwood's selling popcorn and taking donations to send popcorn overseas to American service people. October 5th some members of our group participated in a flag retirement ceremony at the Fort Smith Elks Lodge. The weekend of October 18-20 was the annual Cub Adventure Camp at Rogers Scout Reservation. This years theme was 'Games with a Purpose'. Scouters learned marble games, human foosball, 3 legged race, archery, BB guns, slingshot and other activities. We had beautiful weather for the 500 registered participants to enjoy the camp. Our next Pack outing will be November 9th at the Chaffee Crossing Veterans Day Parade. Come join us as we celebrate our veterans. Yours in Scouting’s Best, Justin Cates Wesley UMC Newsletter November 2019
