Holy Humor Sunday Wesley United Methodist Church May 2025 Newsletter What’s Inside: Pastor’s Note Ministry Highlights UMM & UWF Missions Christmas Calendar & More!

Note from Pastor Jana Dear Church Family, Have you ever heard someone say, “Everything happens for a reason,” or “God won’t give you more than you can handle”? These phrases are often spoken with good intentions. They sound comforting, and in some ways they feel spiritually reassuring. But what if they’re not entirely true? Starting May 4th, we are diving into a thought-provoking and spiritually enriching sermon series based on Adam Hamilton’s book Half Truths: God Helps Those Who Help Themselves and Other Things the Bible Doesn’t Say. Each week, we will explore one of these familiar sayings, unpacking what Scripture actually teaches and how a deeper understanding can transform our faith and relationships. Here are the topics we'll cover: Week 1: Everything Happens for a Reason Week 2: God Helps Those Who Help Themselves Week 3: God Won’t Give You More Than You Can Handle Week 4: God Said It, I Believe It, That Settles It Week 5: Love the Sinner, Hate the Sin This series invites us to think critically, reflect biblically, and grow spiritually. It reminds us that while these sayings may contain a grain of truth, they often miss the fullness of the Gospel message. Together, we will discover how God's grace, love, and call to compassion move us beyond cliché toward a more authentic faith. In Christ, Pastor Jana

Trustee Update Maya Project: We are excited to invite you to join us for the HistoryMakers’ Closing Ceremony & Celebration on Saturday, May 10th, from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at Wesley United Methodist Church. We’ve had the honor of hosting this incredible group of scholars, mentors, and community partners as they’ve worked toward their goal of empowerment and education. Now, it’s time to come together to celebrate their accomplishments! Please join us as we mark this special occasion, show our support, and express our gratitude to all those who made this journey possible. We hope to see you there! Trustee Update: Spring flowers have been set out, the azaleas are blooming, grass is green, the shrubs and trees are leafed out and our campus is beautiful. And you can rest assured that Mildred and Kim , our custodians have our buildings pristine clean. They are spending about 3 times more hours each week cleaning than the previous custodian. Our proposals for replacing all light bulbs with LED energy saving bulbs and incentive from OG&E will be available to present to One Council soon for consideration to save energy and cost. The key board [small piano] has been moved from the sanctuary to the fellowship hall so it can be utilized on occasions for events. 30 new padded metal chairs have been purchased for Blanche and Suzanne's Sunday School classrooms at no cost to the church. On the trustees wish list is that we can replace the 25-28 year old chairs in the Fellowship Hall with new padded ones in the future.

Holy Humor and Snack Bags That’s a wrap! We packed on April 27th and packed enough bags to finish the school year up. Each bag contains 2 breakfast meals, 3 meals and snacks. That means we roughly handed out 1,800 bags to 4 elementary schools in the school year. Which means about 9,000 meals were served plus snacks!
