Wesley United Methodist Church June 2023 Newsletter What’s Inside: Note from Pastor UMM Events UWIF Calendar & More

Note from Pastor Jana Ahhh, summer! The time is here. This usually means more people are taking weekend getaways or going on vacations. It’s a wonderful season of taking time to relax and spend time with your loved ones. Something we don’t think about is that we get a break, but bills never take a summer off. I believe churches learned this during Covid. Even though many could not meet during that time, money was needed. Hopefully, we have learned how helpful it is to continue to give regularly, even if you are away. Chase and I have these discussions when it comes to our own personal tithes. We feel it is a good spiritual practice to tithe. We should not give begrudgingly but with joy and generosity. There is joy in giving and the greater the generosity the deeper the joy. John Wesley’s summary on tithes, “Gain all you can…. save all you can… give all you can.” We are to seek to earn all we can in ways that are helpful to ourselves and others, never harmful. We are to “save all we can” by being frugal in our expenses. And then having earned all we can and spent only what we must to care for our own basic needs and those of our family, we are to give everything else away. The amount does not matter. If you are faithful in your giving, even if it is just a few dollars, that is what is important. You are living out your faith. You are giving abundantly. Obviously, it’s easier to give when you are present, but there are ways to keep us on track in giving. Set up bill pay: Most online banking services will write and send checks for you. Just plug in the church address, the amount of the gift and how often you want it sent. Viola! You’re done! Use our Online Giving: You can give through our online giving portal via PayPal. Give monthly or quarterly: Sometimes it’s hard to anticipate how many Sundays you’ll be away from church. Planning your gift, tithe or offering for monthly or quarterly can keep you current. Let’s be honest, these methods are beneficial not only for the summer months, but also for the whole year. Those who embrace giving as a spiritual discipline often find that their lives of faith are enriched and their sense of joy and fulfillment is deepened. Malachi 3:10, in which God urges, "Bring your full tithe to the temple treasury. ... Test me in this and see if I don't open up heaven itself to you and pour out blessings beyond your wildest dreams" (The Message). Tithing is biblical and can allow us to experience the richness of our faith fully when we are generous. Pastor Jana
