HISTORY This image is a rare, possibly one-of-a-kind postcard of the Gay Head Light. It was created by painting over a mass-produced, sepia-toned photographic postcard. It depicts the lighthouse in the early 20th century, after the original brick light keeper’s house was replaced, in 1902, by the two-story wooden duplex shown here. This card is part of the Weisman Postcard Collection: a set of nearly 4,000 cards donated by Neil Weisman to the Martha’s Vineyard Museum in 2015 and cataloged by MV Museum volunteer Barbara Murphy in a years-long process completed in September 2021.
