Things to dowithTOTS Indoor, outdoor, rain or shine, Martha’s Vineyard has a wide range of events and activities that will surely satisfy the little tike in your life. Here’s some ways to keep your toddler dreaming of more time on MV. Flying Horses Carousel is the nation’s oldest operating carousel, where your kids will try their luck grabbing the coveted brass ring or enjoy a variety of other smaller rides and arcade games. Felix Neck Wild-life Sanctuary offers several parent/child programs, where kids can learn about the many animals in their saltwater tank or their Creature Feature program which combines a story, craft, and a look at the native “creature of the day.” Little Leona’s Pets and Supplies is nestled down a dirt road in West Tisbury.You can expect to be greeted by the store’s resident miniature horses and play with bunnies, guinea pigs and other cuddly creatures. Island Alpaca Farm, where animal lovers of all ages can get up-close and personal with these furry, friendly animals, watch them, interact with them, and assist with feedings. Featherstone Center for the Arts - Toddler Art Program encourages kids to explore clay, painting and architecture during a guided class Outdoor Parks. Spend an afternoon chasing your toddler in Ocean Park in Oak Bluffs and fly a kite or have a picnic there. Niantic Park in Oak Bluffs is a newly redone park with fun options for all ages. Enjoy Owen Park right on the water in Vineyard Haven, or the huge field and playground at Veterans Park just down the road. Popular too are the local elementary school’s impressive playgrounds which can be used after school and on the weekends. Get in the Pool. If your little one loves the water, try bringing them to one of our local pools for extra splashing and play time. The Mansion House Inn has an indoor pool with day passes available, or if you’re staying at the Harbor View Hotel or Winnetu Oceanside Resort be sure to take advantage of their expansive, family friendly outdoor pool areas. Fun Activities for a Rainy Day T here’s no reason to let a little rain dampen your good time on the Island! No matter what time of year you visit, no one ever comes to Martha’s Vineyard hoping it will rain. But here’s why it’s actually a blessing in disguise if it does: There are so many great things to do on Martha’s Vineyard when it rains, things you might not otherwise make the time to enjoy! Its campus is both beautiful and large, and offers a robust variety of classes and workshops year-round for people of all ages. And don’t miss their great gallery openings! The Yard: Old Sculpin Gallery: Over 240 years old, this gallery and studio space is a piece of art in itself. It also offers children’s art classes and educational programs, and is home to Martha’s VineyardArtsAssociation. If you still want to be active while it’s raining, stop in for a community dance class at The Yard! Not feeling motivated to move? Check out one of their performances instead. Either way, you’re sure to have a great time. MV Ice Arena: Lace up your skates or rent a pair onsite, and take a spin on the ice at MVArena during their public skating hours throughout the week. Or, sign up to take a lesson. Take a Swim – Indoors! Both the YMCAof Martha’s Vineyard and the Mansion House Inn have indoor pools and offer day passes.
