Exchange in Vaasa Hello! My name is Yana Dobretsova, and I am a fourth-year student studying the Information Technology degree During my third year in autumn 2021 and winter 2022 I went on an exchange and here is that story� Being an Information Technology student at VAMK we learn a lot of subjects in many different subareas of the field, which allows us to get a good understanding of different parts of the trade. In the grand scheme of things, if you start your education in the IT field without any idea of what you might want to do in the future a degree like this is perfect. In my case I have already narrowed down what I want to do with my career after I graduate VAMK. Because of that already at the beginning of my degree I was thinking of expanding the scope of courses I take to include some that would be more specifically fit towards my career plans. At the same time, I always knew that I would like to go on an exchange semester to some other country. Being an international student myself, I have already experienced moving to a new country with its own unique culture and have made many great friends both through my education and outside of it. Why not do it again? And why not combine meeting new people and traveling with getting knowledge that my degree would benefit from? I took some time to figure out which university I wanted to go to, since it needed to have courses that would be 30
