Immigrants are Essential: Paola Mendoza’s Aesthetic of the Undocumented By Guadalupe Lombera A couple of Pennsylvania Avenue blocks from the White House, the center of U.S. political power, seven bright, larger-than-life portraits adorn the windows of The Roost, a 12,500-square-foot food court. Tourists and locals – some of whom no doubt walk the hallways of nearby Capitol Hills – may catch sight of these smiling faces as they stop for curated coffee or crispy pork belly poutine.
