THE MOVEMENT CREATIVE OFFERINGS BOOKLET

WE ARE MOVEMENT RESEARCHERS, BOLDLY STANDING ON THE FRONTIER OF WHAT’S KNOWN AND WHAT THERE IS TO BE DISCOVERED.

We see ourselves as both teachers and students of movement, we are powerful professionals who work to foster growth and learning in our students and community, and powerful partnerships with the gyms, schools, and organisations that we work with.

POP-UP PLAYGROUND The Pop-up playground is a tool for creating spaces that encourage and accommodate movement. We believe that environments teach, and by giving people power over their own environment we give them power over their own learning. This can range from small elements that encourage exploration to structures that accommodate movement of all kinds. Our physical structures are focused on creating safe places to explore your limits of jumping, climbing, balancing, hanging, and swinging. Technology is brought in to help teach things like reaction speed, a sense of touch (how quiet and controlled can you be), and awareness. By incorporating all of these different elements you can create an endless number of different environments for movement. The structure uses different metal, wood, and rubber components, as well as various tech elements. Everything is safe to be built on any surface, indoor or outdoor. Students or facilitators can use the different components to construct spaces.

WORKSHOPS

POP-UP DESIGN We will grow our parkour vision through exploring our city’s diversity of design and architecture. Let’s ask questions about structures, parks, plazas, and talk about public vs. private space. Mixing architecture with parkour, participants will spend a week exploring their built environment, studying the principles of playground and architectural design, and applying those lessons by designing and building a pop-up playground for all ages.

GAME DESIGN Over the course of the week we will learn not only what makes a game great, but also how to lay the groundwork to create a game of our own. Students will engage in movement, design, discussion, and play-testing. By the end of the week each group will showcase a game they designed that not only is fun to play, but also gets its players better at what they want to be better at! Designed in collaboration with a local game designer & middle school educators.
