Comiket in the late 90’s was where Type-Moon presented their projects, and the target demographic was predominantly male. In the end, In order to make the story different, It was Takeuchi who suggested Saber be a woman. Thus came about the birth of one of the most iconic characters in anime history. The original idea for Fate was animated in 2011 for the Carnival Phantasm anime. It serves as a celebratory anniversary piece of various Type-Moon series including Fate. The OVA was so well recieved, it spawned a Light Novel expansion intothis universe called Fate/Prototype: Fragments of Blue and Sky Silver. Fate/Stay Night is the most successful entry into the Nasuverse. Its’ characters and themes have continued to have impact on other stories today. Fate/Stay Night was released as a visual novel in 2004, and serves as Type-Moon’s first, and most successful, commercial release to date. Nasu stated in a past interview that he was heavily inspired by the manga series Samurai Ressurection by Futaro Yamada.. Much later on, Fate would adapt the story into Fate/Grand Order’s story as :Tournament of the Seven Blade-Masters: Shimosa. The novel was originally going to be much longer. A total of 4 routes were initially planned, although due to time constraints and conflicting interests, the number of routes were cut down to 3 in the end. Each of the three routes are known for their masterclass writing and insightful look into the nature of humanity, including what it truly means to realize the reality of ones own ideals, as well as to look into ones self to find a sense of purpose in life. In the most early drafts of the story, which was initially planned to be a novel, Saber and many of the others were men, and the protagonist a girl. However, the story would not have resonated with their target audience at Comiket. The original PC release sold over 400 thousand copies in its’ initial run in 2004. This makes it one of the top-selling and highest rated Visual Novels of all time.
