PREP ARA TOR Y SCHOOL Kristian Thomas’s Inspirational Visit Year 6 Sports Captains write: “We were very proud to welcome Kristian Thomas to Prep School and help him in our roles as Sports Captains. We worked with all of the younger children to help with the fun activities. Kristian was really inspirational and his gymnastic tricks impressive. It was hard work (and we ached afterwards) but we’ve been inspired to work hard on our handstands in PE and to remember that working hard and training hard is the best way to succeed in life. Kristian was very committed to doing his best, and this is something we can all try to copy”. Children in Need The Children in Need Pyjama Day was one of the many fund-raising events of the year in Preparatory School, which saw £523 raised for charity. 2019 Tennis Champs The 2019 tennis season saw the Year 4 and Year 5 tennis teams retain the title of WASPS Primary Schools Champions. Learning from the Masters What better way to learn about writing and illustrating books than to hear from the great masters themselves? Numerous authors have visited the Preparatory School this year to give first hand insight into their worlds. Jim Smith, author and illustrator of the award winning ‘Barry Loser’ series, entertained Years 2-6 in the theatre, explaining how he developed his characters and demonstrating how to recreate his drawings. The children produced some excellent drawings themselves under his guidance. The pupils commented: “We liked his imagination in drawing and writing and his sense of humour and we really enjoyed trying out what he’d taught us.” Another popular visitor was the highly entertaining Ian Billings: stand-up comic, children’s author and poet. They learnt a great deal about the creative writing process from his talk whilst having fun. 7
