Preparatory School This has been a year of consolidation and careful consideration of how to best reflect our school values in our Preparatory School practice. As an enthusiastic cyclist, I see a parallel between each pedal rotation to keep moving forwards and each tiny step of progress every pupil makes. How those tiny steps edge us ever forwards with pupils making a myriad of improvements; deepening understanding in all of their subjects, developing their wonderful characters or learning how to be a friend. Just like the rotations of the pedals on a bike, each little success becomes a crucial part of our monumental shared movement towards being truly outstanding. Our aim is to encourage curious and creative learners, whether through our revamped and unique reading scheme, the introduction of new methods of teaching mathematics, a dynamic yet traditional curriculum supported by visits, visitors and workshops, or simply excellent teaching. Our well established learning attitudes encourage the right sort of thinking and approach both in and out of lessons, and the weekly announcement of which year group is in the lead has become hotly contested and loudly celebrated. Preparatory pupils continue to develop the resilience, responsibility, respectfulness, ability to reflect and 4 readiness to work that we know will make them more fulfilled and successful individuals. This section of the magazine aims to capture some of the highlights of this year’s journey in Preparatory School and Pre-Preparatory years. We hope you enjoy reading it.
