SENIOR SCHOOL Art Building on 2018’s excellent GCSE and AS/A Level art and photography results, the art department has continued to thrive. In September, three pupils were shortlisted for the ISA Art and Design Award. Amanvir Rai (Year 13) won first place for his photography entry, Jessica Stanton (Year 11) came second with her excellent ceramic work and Scarlett Wright in Year 7 received a commendation for her drawing work. Year 12 pupils attended a two-day workshop with local ceramicist Paul Gooderham and have produced some outstanding work as a result. Emily Chan described this experience as “an extraordinary opportunity.” A group of aspiring artists from Year 7 – 13 took part in a large-scale portrait workshop with Shropshire based artist Oliver Jones. Marta Gniecka (Year 12) comments: “Such a superb experience. I never knew that I could use chalk pastels in such an incredible way that would allow me to achieve such stunning results. This workshop was challenging, surprising, inspiring and worthwhile.” Artist of the Week is particularly important to the pupils and is celebrated on our website and social media. Furthermore, there have been many trips and workshops, designed to provide enriching experiences whilst complementing the curriculum. This has included working with the education team at the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham and a cross curricular trip to the Sealife Centre with the science department.
