Three locals finish in top 5 at VGA Nationals The Veteran Golfers Association held its National Tournament on Oct. 27-30 at The Greenbrier in Sulphur Springs,West Virginia and the event had a bit of local flavor. Three VGA members (Adam Napier, Kyle Hamer and Mike Matt) participated in the National Tournament and all three finished in the top 5. Napier (Collins, Miss.) finished third in the Wounded Veterans Flight A after rounds of 75 and 84. Napier’s 159 was 13 shots behind the winning score. In the Family Flight C division, Matt (Slidell, La.) was fourth after rounds of 89 and 75.The 164 total was 18 shots behind the flight winner. Hamer (Bossier City, La.) finished fifth in the Veterans B Flight after rounds of 77 and 78 allowed him to finish with a 155, which was seven shots back of the winning score. The VGA, which was founded in 2014, has chapters in Louisiana and Mississippi.Although next year’s local schedules have not been finalized yet,VGA Louisiana is putting on a Meet and Greet Outing on Saturday Nov. 16 at Stonebridge Golf Club of New Orleans in Gretna.The event is to gain new `members, spread awareness and preview the upcoming 2020 season.The cost for the tourney is $42. Cooper Ware (Opelousas, La.) won the boys’ 15-18 division with a 76, which was two shots better than Mark Bertrand III of Cankton, La. In the boys 12-14 division, Charles Valiulis (Shreveport, La.) was victorious after carding an 86. Collier White (Shreveport) was second at 92.
