Crescent City to host two bowl games, National Championship THE R+L CARRIERS BOWL IS DEC. 21 (Appalachian State vs. UAB) THE ALLSTATE SUGAR BOWL IS JAN. 1 (Georgia vs. Baylor) THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF TITLE GAME IS JAN. 13 All eyes will be in New Orleans on Jan. 13 when a college football national champion will be crowned. Before the big game, Louisiana’s biggest city will also play host to two other bowl games — the R+L Carriers Bowl on Dec. 21 and the Allstate Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day. All three games will be played at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and televised by ESPN. The first bowl game of the season (R+L Carriers Bowl) will feature Appalachian State verses UAB. Alabama-Birmingham (9-4) team that won the Conference USA West Division, but fell to Florida International in the conference’s championship game. The UAB defense statistically is ranked ninth in the nation overall in yards allowed (107.2 yards rushing and 186.8 yards passing). Appalachian State (12-1) won the Sun Belt East and overall crown with a victory over Sun Belt West champion Louisiana-Lafayette. The only set back for the Mountaineers this season was a three-point Halloween loss to Georgia Southern. Appalachian State opened up as a 16.5-point favorite in this game. The first day of 2020 will feature four bowl games with the Allstate Sugar Bowl being the last one of the day. That game features an interesting matchup of Georgia vs. Baylor. Both schools won their respective divisions, but lost their conference championship games. Both are ranked inside the top 7 with Baylor at seventh and Georgia ranked fifth. The 7:45 pm kickoff will feature a Bears team that averaged over 35 points per game against a Bulldog defense that didn’t allow any regular-season opponents more than 17 points and had three shutouts.While Georgia did give up a season-high 37 points to LSU in the SEC Championship Game, that was 10 points lower than the Tigers’ season average. The Bulldogs opened up as a 7.5-point favorite. The College Football season will end in New Orleans when the College Football Playoff National Champion Game will crown a champion on Jan. 13.
