History The Creation of a Crusader: Senator Thomas Morris and the Birth of the Antislavery Movement Thursday, May 8, at 6:00 p.m. David Crago, presenter Senator Morris was the first member of the US Senate to defend abolitionists. He argued, the Constitution neither identified people as property nor granted Congress the power to establish slavery in the territories or the District of Columbia. Although far outside the 1830s political consensus, Morris’s ideas became the cornerstone of antislavery political beliefs. Mike’s Story: From Rome to Home... & Back Again Tuesday, June 3, at 2:00 p.m. Mike & Julie McCormick, presenters Mike, a Sandusky native, always knew he was adopted, but it wasn’t until after his retirement that he set out on a decadelong journey to discover his roots. With the help of his wife Julie they not only found his biological parents and living relatives, but they also uncovered the disturbing truth of how he came to be adopted and his surprising connection to the Holocaust. Fick, presenter Take an unexpectedly interesting look at the Lakeside & Marblehead Railroad (L&M), which was active from 1886 to 1964. Although only seven miles long, it handled much more traffic per mile than many larger and more boastful lines. Find out why several generations of railfans and history enthusiasts have journeyed to Lakeside and Marblehead to trace its former path.
