Cover to Cover SANDUSKY LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S UPDATE The Library transitions to a new season of programs for fall and geared to the school year, starting with Library Card Signup Month in September. Parents are encouraged to transform their child’s opportunities with a library card. Early literacy initiatives at Sandusky Library go beyond library card signup. We are thrilled to announce the formation of the Library's first-ever 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Club, funded with a grant from the Boeckling Charitable Trust. The goal of the club is to encourage preschoolers and their caregivers to read together, fostering a love of reading that will set the child on a path of academic success and lifelong learning. We encourage families to stop by the Youth Services Department to learn about this program. The Library’s Community Conversations series continues with a focus on early literacy. On Thursday, October 3 (time to be determined), the conversation will start with a viewing of the video documentary, The Right to Read, produced by Reading Rainbow's Lavar Burton. that This documentary asserts literacy is a fundamental civil right. Community literacy experts and advocates will lead a discussion about the Science of Reading and engage the audience to take action to help eradicate illiteracy. We welcome aspiring and experienced readers of all ages to join us on literacy adventures in the pages ahead.
