Ngang and Yarong are students in the Beginning Literacy ESL class in the evening Mexican Traditions I come from a state in Mexico called Michoacan. My small town is El Paracho. It's a small community with few people but is full of traditions and colors. Today I want to talk about one of our most important traditions. “Dia de los Muertos” (Day of the dead). This celebration happens on November 2nd. On this day our cemeteries are full of colors, smells and traditional food. In November first families prepare to celebrate the lives of their loved ones who passed away. My family goes to the cemetery to decorate the graves with flowers of cempasuchil, colorful paper cut and the favorite food of our loved ones. We also make altars with food, water, salt and candles. We believe that during the early morning of November 2nd our loved ones come back to visit us and enjoy these offerings. On this day the cemeteries in my community are full of families. We remember that death is not the end but the continuation of something beyond. Maria is a student in the Intermediate High ESL class in the morning
