8 Patient Guide What Observation Status Means for Your Care If you have been placed in observation status, it means that we will continue to closely observe and manage your medical condition as an outpatient for a period of time. Your doctor will determine if you should be discharged to home or admitted to the hospital. ⬤ Expect to be admitted or dismissed within 24-48 hours ⬤ You will be updated on your condition and plan of care throughout your stay ⬤ Observation services are billed by the hour ⬤ Time spent in observation does not count towards the skilled care benefit under Medicare ⬤ Your Doctor determines that you are ready for discharge, this could be anytime day or night ⬤ If you have more questions please ask your nurse for further assistance Staying Connected In-Room Telephones For your convenience, MercyOne provides telephones in each patient room. ⬤ To make a local call, pick up and dial 9 followed by the number you wish to reach. ⬤ To make a long distance call, dial 0 and the facility operator will assist you. Cellular Phones and Mobile Devices You are welcome to use your mobile/cellular device as needed. For your safety and for privacy purposes, there may be some areas where you are asked to reduce or restrict the use of your mobile device.
