Behind the Brand L’ARTISTE EN SÉRIE desi rée van de beek-harker "Going viral" on social media is something every artist dreams about, but that's what happened recently to Desirée Van de Beek-Harker! L’Artiste en Série was spotted in the Love of Home online shopping guide(! ! ! ) and approached by Verizon Media to film snippets of her art processes. You've quite possibly watched the mesmerizing pouring of her resin work as the video was shared across Facebook and Instagram. L’Artiste en Série – meaning The Serial Artist – originated from a hen’s night celebration where a resin craft class was on the schedule instead of the usual alcohol-induced shenanigans. Desirée, who holds a Bachelor of Science and a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education and taught secondary maths and science for several years, began a love affair with fluid art then and there. “To say I was, and still am, obsessed with resin is an understatement,” Desirée explains. “I’ve worked hard to hone my skills and was rewarded with an art show award in 2019.” This success would need to be postponed however as Covid-19 put a stop to all art shows in 2020. “I pride myself on my four business ideals: 1. Integrity: I work honestly with clients and suppliers; 2. Passion: I create only with passion and heart; 3. Quality: I take the time to execute a piece well using only quality supplies; and 4. Collaboration: I work with other like-minded small and local businesses.” Desirée also regularly works with different charities to help their fundraising cause and is currently supporting Love Your Sister. “Right now I’m also helping other local businesses keep working and producing fine art prints and Australian printed fabrics and there are a few secret things I’m yet to release.” Utilising her teaching background, Desirée also teaches fluid art through both online and face to face workshops, which she is missing right now with Covid-19 restrictions in Victoria. “I’m working a lot more with alcohol inks at the moment, as I’m limited with my resin work having my children home every day. My main focus is oceanthemed resin art and I try hard to give them a point of view different to other artists with similarly themed work. My favourite pieces are commissioned wall artworks, which incorporate natural elements into aerial aspects of real Australian beaches.” LOVE OF HOME | 2020 September Shopping Guide
