Behind the Brand RAELEAN GOODACRE paper and flower Paper and Flower is based in Sydney where artist Rae Goodacre has combined her life’s work experiences and love of Mother Nature to create unique and stunning artworks. “I always loved being creative and fulfilled this urge by cooking, crafting and photography through my school years. We moved a bit as I grew up and this creative side of me kept me very well occupied. My dad always encouraged us to love nature. He had a love of woodwork and to this day still has stashes of timber from all the places we lived. “I studied Fine Art at university where I majored in sculpture and photography and later I studied Graphic Design whilst working for a branding company. As my life progressed, I was still always creating. My girlfriend and I had a business for a few years designing fabric for table linens, napkins, tablecloths, tea towels, etc. During this time, I started photographing a lot of flowers and nature and this is where I started to enjoy playing with the images that I had taken. The linen business ended but I continued to play and build a collection of artworks from the photos.” Rae compares her artwork to a photographic collage: each flower, leaf, insect is a building block and layered all together to create a visual masterpiece. “On my website I talk about all of my loves and interests forming a perfect storm and it really does feel like that, like everything I loved to do and have learned has somehow enabled me to be fully skilled and ready to build these artworks that I love so much.” Rae explains: “I want to have artwork that is chosen because it is loved, not as a throw away trend. I am committed to having a sustainable product. The printer that I use has sound sustainability practices as well as producing work of extraordinary quality. I work at home and am mindful of the resources that I use. Each artwork is printed and framed with longevity in mind using archival and museum quality products. I think it is summed up with this quote by William Morris: “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful”. “My customers can buy unique and original artwork straight from the artist. I can offer them a face and a real person behind the product and I think that can be a warming and personal thing to be able to do as an online purchase. A personal connection with an artist is a hard thing to find online! My artwork it is not mass produced so there is no wastage and each piece is one of a limited number. Customers can also learn the story of their chosen pieces and therefore have a story to tell when it is hanging in their home.” LOVE OF HOME | 2020 June Shopping Guide
