LA PICKLEBALL By Dennis Santino Pickleball Funday is September 5 at the HFC. All members are invited to join us for an afternoon of fellowship, games and food, and remembrance as we honor the 25th anniversary of September 11. Additionally, we will be supporting Tunnel to Towers. Born from the tragedy of 9/11, Tunnel to Towers carries out its mission to “do good,” by providing mortgagefree homes to Gold Star and fallen first responders’ families with young children and by building speciallyadapted smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. We will be accepting donations for Tunnel to Towers, via check or cash. 35 We now have 188 members of LAPA so lets fill up this fun day event and support the great people who defend it. Coaches Corner: Pickleball is a fantastic way to stay active and stay fit. We all moved here for that reason so let’s not let injuries keep us from enjoying this game. For instance, about 90.9% of pickleball injuries seen in emergency rooms occur in people over 50 years old. Also, strains and sprains make up around 28.7% of all recorded pickleball injuries, and fractures account for about 27.4%. Don’t let 10 to 15 minutes of stretching cost you 10 to 12 weeks of playing. #1 Rule: Have Fun! FRIENDLY BOCCE GROUP By Joann Hartline “I came, I saw, I missed the pallino.”It’s been hot, but we have been playing; that’s a sign of the great friendships that have developed through the game of bocce. If you would like to join our “friendly group,” come Mondays and/or Fridays from 10 am to noon to the far left side of the Clubhouse, in the back. You may join us at any time during this period. With the heat as intense as it has been, we usually play for about an hour. Hopefully, we can increase our playing time as cooler weather heads our way. Questions?
