Other safeguards include monitoring your mail, shredding sensitive documents, keeping social media accounts private, avoiding card skimmers, freezing your credit, reviewing financial transactions regularly and using two-factor authentication. According to the FBI’s 2025 IC3 Annual Report, Americans age 60 and older reported $7.7 billion in losses from fraud in 2025, about a 60 percent increase from 2024. These figures may not represent the full impact of fraud because many scams go unreported.
