The Health & Fitness Center continues its tradition of bringing awareness to breast cancer throughout the month of October. To begin with, we encourage LA residents who attend exercise classes in the month of October to wear pink clothing for a chance to win a prize. This year is the HFC’s 10th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk beginning at 9 am on October 2. The first three place finishers for both the short walk and long walk will be awarded medals during a breakfast brunch for ‘walk’ participants. The HFC is also continuing its commemoration of those people and/or their family members affected by breast cancer by displaying their names on our ‘Wall of Honor’ behind the HFC’s activity desk, throughout the month of October. Simply let HFC personnel know of name(s) of those people they would like to honor. The HFC is also hosting ‘Pinktober-Fest’ on October 2, from 6 to 9 pm, as part of its overall Breast Cancer Awareness event, having a dance with Perfect Pitch playing your favorite hits. Nutley’s Food Truck ‘Hot Dog Cart’ will have German bratwurst, potato salad, and other Octoberfest-like food on hand as well. This is a free admission event and fund raiser for breast cancer. You may register for the Breast Cancer walk, in person or by phone at 863-595-1562 and pick up your ticket for the dance beginning September 1 at the HFC. Lake Ashton II Community Development District (LA 2 CDD) meeting is on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 9:00 AM in the Community Center. Please mark your calendars for this important date as a valuable opportunity to stay informed about district matters, participate in discussions, and connect with fellow residents. Your involvement helps support the continued growth and wellbeing of the Lake Ashton community. If you are unable to attend in person you may wish to attend via ZOOM. Making the most of “AI” and Your Library is a seminar that explores how to plan a trip, create a recipe from what’s in the refrigerator, brainstorm hobbies, and activities and so much more, presented by Rebecca Player of the Winter Haven Library. Call or come by to reserve your spot at the HFC on Tuesday, September 22, from 1:30 to 2:30 pm. FREAKY FRIDAY is the HFC’s Halloween dance taking place on October 23, 2026, from 6 to 9 pm with music by Perfect Pitch, Lake Ashton’s House Band. Costumes are optional but we all know what fun it is to guess who is behind that mask, and there will be prizes awarded for the three best costumes worn. Reserve a table for $10 at the HFC. Admission at the door is $10. The HFC encourages residents to watch for upcoming events as it continues to promote awareness and community spirit. From joining a group walk to enjoying a live performance or spending time together through games, there are many ways to get involved and show your support. 10
