JUST AROUND THE CORNER - TOYS FOR TOTS By Fred Halde As I’ve wandered through a few stores lately, I’ve seen Halloween decorations, costumes and candy on full display. If I had done a deeper dive I wonder if I also would have seen Thanksgiving and Christmas themed items on the shelves as well. All this is to say that the holiday season is around the corner and that also means the “Toys for Tots” box will soon be on your doorstep. Well, not really on YOUR doorstep, but set up in the Health and Fitness Center. For a number of years Lake Ashton has responded with overwhelming generosity to this community outreach, which seeks to put a toy or two in the hands of children during the holidays. It is my hope this next “giving” season will see the same kind of response of love and caring. COMMUNITY SOCIAL POTLUCKS The best way to meet new friends is over a good meal! LA PURPLE ST A RS AN N U AL CHILI COOK-OFF By David Harrison The LA Purple Stars will once again have their Chili Cook-off on January 24, 2025 to raise money for The American Cancer Society. This event has been a favorite among residents because we invite twenty to make chili for tasting. We also sell corn bread, water, and baked goods. Next year we will also have draft beer from Charm City, so bring a few extra bucks. We'll start selling tasting tickets in November. More information to come next month.
