L.A. LOOKS Central LA (LW) HOA CORNER By Dee Mayne, Compliance Director For this month's article we would like to address some things you can do to help keep the curb appeal in our community as well as offer some helpful things you can do to stay compliant. The Lake Wales HOA will be checking homeowners’ properties in October for signs that are visible from streets and cart paths. The only signs allowed in the CC&Rs are home security signs. Please ensure any flags you are flying are allowed and are flown appropriately as required by both State and Federal statutes and our governing documents. As snowbirds start their way back, this is a good time to check for weeds (they love summer here!) and refresh mulch beds as needed. Please remember to bring trash and recycle bins in after they have been emptied. If you do leave them outdoors they must be screened and not visible. Last but not least, are you planning some renovations or updates? Please remember, an ARC request is required for many things you may want to do on the exterior of your property. Not sure when an ARC request is needed? Please visit the ARC Tracker at arctracker.com/la or our website at lakeashtonhoa.com for copies of the guidelines. Thank you for helping to keep Lake Ashton beautiful! It can grow to 3-4 feet in height and 2-3 feet in width. The grass grows in clumps and its flower stalks bring a beautiful pink or purple airy look to any landscape. The stalks begin turning pink or purple as early as August and lasting until December. It gives Florida its own Fall color. The grass can be cut back in December, but waiting until Spring brings a winter interest. It’s best though to divide the grass every 2 to 3years if you have limited space. Muhly grass is often planted near fences or in borders for better show. Here’s a super easy plant to grow. Once established, it is drought tolerant, takes heat, and is forgiving to poor soils. This plant is just about maintenance free. Though it likes sun, it tolerates shade too. There is another variety called “White Cloud” if pink isn’t for you. Take a ride around LA Pavilion for a closer look. The Lake Ashton Garden Club planted some about two years ago. You’ll be able to tell if this plant is right for you.
