LAMGA By David Kubissa The highlight of October was the Red Hoagland Cup, named after the Hyundai dealership that has been a loyal LAMGA sponsor. This special event was fashioned after the Ryder Cup with two teams – Red vs. Blue -- facing off over a two-day tournament on Oct. 15 and 16. Teams consisted of 10 twosomes playing against one another on both courses. Day 1 consisted of two matches on the East Course: Best Ball and Modified Alternate Shot. Day 2, on the West Course, featured nine-hole singles matches involving all 40 players in the field. When it was over, the Red team came out on top, 33 to 27. Congratulations to the winning team: Tim Wayt, Dave Dersham, Bob Plummer, Gary Pagel, Dan Baun, Rolly Geyer, Tom Murphy, David Kubissa, David Langel, Rick Steury, Doug Hines, Bob Dupuis, Mike Stadfeld, Mike Krigelski, Russ Hopp, Rick Simonetta, Richard Sutherland, Jim Simpson, Matt Kosek and Tom Williams. All players competing in this first Red Hoagland Cup received a commemorative hat. Board election: Three board seats are up for election this year. LAMGA members interested in running for these seats must file a self-nomination form by Nov. 15. The election is scheduled to take place the third week in November. All three incumbents have said they would run for re-election, and if there are no other candidates, the election will not be necessary. LAMGA members will be kept updated by email. Red Hoagland Challenge: The standings as of Sept. 30 are: 1. Steve Kettells, $188.15; 2. Mike Krigelski, $171.50; 3. Stephen Predoehl, $168.90; 4. Ed Commons, $167.90 Sponsor salute: Thanks to the following businesses, individuals and groups for supporting LAMGA: Brad Kirwan Real Estate; Mike Krigelski, A+ Realty; Lake Ashton Realty, Terri Mattocks; Lake Ashton Realty, Lori Raath; Realty Inspection Solution; Ann & Todd McCarthy; William & Pat Littlefield; Sam & Trudy Guardian; Tom DiLaura’s Friday Group Right: Pat O’Neil tees off on No. 1 West as Russ Hopp and Norm Stebbins await their turn to hit. The West Course was the scene on Day 2 of 40 nine-hole singles matches, each worth one point. Far Right: Players on each team received a commemorative hat with the LAMGA insignia on the front and the Red Hoagland Cup logo on the side. Below: The scoreboard tells the story. After Day 1, the Blue team held a one-point lead, but on Day 2, the Red team dominated singles play, piling up a seven-point advantage that led to its victory.
