It involved lots of paperwork, letters of recommendation, and interviews via Zoom which he completed. Dan arrived in Israel a week before the war broke out, touring Haifa in the North prior to his volunteer assignment. He met up with his volunteer group the day after War was declared. He had the option to return home, but felt it important to stay and serve. He is spending 2 weeks packing medical supplies for the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) on an Israeli base close to Tel Aviv. The several volunteers are from all over the world. Of course, there are IDF soldiers staying on the base also. They have had to take shelter when the sirens blare, having 40 seconds to feel completely safe. Dan and Nancy have been to Israel several times before, and had always felt safe. Sadly, things are very different now. Nancy is trying to keep busy with friends from Michigan visiting her, and can't wait for Dan’s return and his volunteer stories.
