When asked what motivates him to volunteer he said “It’s simple: it’s heartwarming because delivering a hot meal and making contact with each recipient in many instances is their only in-person interaction for the day. It’s a chance to perform a mitzvah (good deed in Hebrew) by sharing fellowship and providing a wellness check for that day.” At 81 David also keeps busy with his fund raising initiatives in Lake Ashton for the American Cancer Society, putting on the annual Chili Cook-off in January, Luminaries in February and St Patrick’s Day Dance in March. Meals on Wheels Polk receives no state or federal funding. It sustains through communitybased charity and volunteers. Volunteer opportunities include: kitchen preparation / packaging, clean-up, meal delivery and thrift store clerks. Jon served in the United States Marine Corps for 9 years, 10 months. Jon was the Frostproof Mayor, 2020-2024, Frostproof City Council member, 2016-2024, and elected to the FL House in 2024.
