SAFETY NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH By Fay Wood, NW Chief As Lake Ashton continues to grow, traffic issues become more frequent and bothersome. The roads within our community are built to accommodate two lanes of traffic. On any given day there are cars parked in the road, as well as service provider vehicles. These factors cause choke points on the street, the most dangerous of which is when a vehicle or vehicles are parked on a curve. All vehicles, including golf carts, must obey all stop signs and the 20 mph speed limit throughout Lake Ashton. Drivers, watch for pedestrians at all times. Obeying posted speed limit and traffic signs can help avert a potential tragedy. Obviously, our vision of oncoming traffic and pedestrians is obstructed. The car in the unobstructed lane has the right of way over the vehicle in the lane which is blocked. However, common sense should prevail. Just because you have the right of way doesn’t mean the approaching vehicle will give it to you. Any accident between a car and a golf cart can result in dire consequences, even if you are obeying the speed limit. Driving rights of way should be given not taken. Drive safely and enjoy retirement! STOP THE BLEED CERT has partnered with the Polk County Fire Rescue to bring a Stop the Bleed class to the Clubhouse Ballroom on June 23 at 11 am.
