LA AMATEUR RADIO CLUB By David Bishop The Lake Ashton Amateur Radio Club is pleased to announce that we have received authorization from the FCC to operate a Special Event Station using the call sign K4Y (Kilo 4 Yankee). This station will operate in celebration of the 250th anniversary of US. Independence at Lake Ashton. Just as broadcasting stations and airports use unique identifiers such as WFLA, KMCO, or the famous WKRP, K4Y is a specialized call sign designated by the FCC specifically to commemorate this historic event. Our club members will be operating from Lake Ashton between July 1st and July 5th, on several amateur radio bands, connecting with amateur radio stations across the United States and around the world. To mark these contacts, we will be issuing digital certificates to all participating stations. Given the rarity of special event stations, we anticipate significant interest and look forward to sharing the spirit of Lake Ashton with the global amateur radio community. SANDY’S NY STATE GROUP By Joyce Notarnicola The LA New York State (NYS) Group is a friendly and active social group for residents who have lived in New York at some point in their lives and enjoy connecting with fellow New Yorkers. We typically gather for potlucks and casual dinners out, blending good food with great conversation. New residents are always encouraged to join us and become part of the fun. Whether you’re newly arrived or have been here for years, the NYS Group offers a great way to stay connected, meet new friends, and enjoy familiar ties to New York in a warm Florida setting. Next event is September 25 at the HFC, a dinner at a restaurant TBD in October, and Friendsgiving in the Clubhouse November 20. Newbies: send your contact information (name, address in LA, phone number, email and where you’re from/live in NY) to Deirdre Knapp (auntdeda@hotmail.com). We look forward to seeing lots of “old” and new faces in the fall! 32
