LAKE ASHTON FRIENDS OF MEALS ON WHEELS By Marcia Santino This month we shine a spotlight on LA residents and Meals on Wheels (MOW) volunteers, Suzanne Patrick and Doug Epler, pictured here with their sweet poodle, Ginger. Volunteering for MOW has been a passion of Doug’s for 10 years. He and Suzanne deliver to homebound people in Winter Haven each Monday and occasionally fill-in a second weekday as needed. Their route takes about one hour to complete, round trip from home and back is typically no more than 2 hours. When asked why they do it, Doug said: “It’s good for the heart – it’s very satisfying to know you are helping others in need. For some, our brief interaction is the fellowship they have all day.” Doug and Suzanne have been a couple for 4 years. They are both extremely involved in the community: playing pickleball, attending almost every dance and spending quality time with their many friends playing cards and games. Please contact MOW at 863-299-1616 if you are considering becoming a volunteer driver, kitchen helper or thrift store clerk. Next Third Thursday donation day is June 18. 29 LA CERAMIC CHICS By Shari Gleber Nothing says I love you like time well spent, and the LA Ceramic Chics can often be found spending time painting beautiful pieces to give as gifts to family and friends.
