EVENTS TRI-SERVICE BIRTHDAY BALL By Cal Posner How great is it to live in Lake Ashton! Not a question but a statement of fact. When the Lake Ashton Veterans Association decided to throw a Tri-service 250th Birthday Ball for the three senior services, Army, Navy and Marine Corps, all founded in 1775, residents couldn’t wait to volunteer for the June 14 event. DJ Wayne, a former Marine, came forward to do our music. He and I spent nearly a month searching for the perfect National Anthem and Military Medley. Then, three ladies who reside in Lake Ashton came forward and said they would sing those songs live and they had their own sound system. You know them as the “Ladybugs.” They are wonderful singers as well as wonderful people. Nik at Charm City volunteered to supply table settings and two bottles of wine at each table, a bar and a non-alcoholic bar all at cost. Caroline Lane at the Clubhouse has been a great help in our planning and asking the right questions of us. She has been very supportive, and Christine has been wonderful in keeping everything on track. Valerie LeBlanc, who edits the LA Times and works on the Clubhouse Lobby TV, came to our first meeting and has been a supporter ever since. The souvenir program on your table is her work. A special thanks to Trin Rios for stepping up and filling in for me for the two weeks I was away and for figuring out the Color Guard movements around all the equipment on the stage and the tables on the floor. And kudos to Lynn Shelton for her centerpieces that are on your tables. There are still a few tables open for this historic event. You don’t have to be a veteran to attend. If you support our military, the people who keep our country safe, please email calposner@aol.com for tickets or text to 678.464.7331 for more information.
