Here are a few tips to minimize this type of situation when exercising outside during the sweltering summer months. If possible, exercise during the early morning or evening. Taking regular breaks and drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated is suggested, as well as wearing light-colored and loose-fitting clothes. It is important to know the signs of heat-related illness, such as muscle cramps and nausea, which can easily lead to heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Our senior residents can also be more susceptible to overheating, especially if there are existing medical conditions and taking certain medications. We want our Lake Ashton residents to be safe and avoid the possibility of heat stroke. It’s important to use sunscreen and wearing a hat while out-ofdoors is also recommended. There is always an option of exercising indoors in the comfort of an air-conditioned environment. Both the HFC and Clubhouse have well-equipped fitness rooms and a variety of exercise classes to help keep a person physically fit. Dancing is also a form of exercise, and the HFC is featuring the Seger Experience, taking place on June 13th which is bound to bring back memories of days gone by, and a Lake Ashton favorite, The Rusty Trumpet Band will be here on June 20, kicking off our Summer Music Series. Stop by the HFC to reserve your table for either of these events, and to buy tickets for the Seger Experience. A big thank you to those LA residents who have registered their golf carts and received the new golf stickers (for accountability, safety and visibility). It only takes a few minutes to register your golf cart, which can be done at the HFC, Monday through Friday from 10 am to 3 pm. The deadline to do so is July 31. 10
