LAMGA By David Kubissa The league’s signature event this month is dubbed “Sweat and Swing,” so-named as a concession to golfing weather at the height of summer. The game – a pick-your-foursome format -- is scheduled for July 9, and it includes a hot dog-bar lunch. If you’re new to Lake Ashton and would like to play in the men’s league, pick up an application at the LAMGA bulletin board in the pro shop or download one from the LAMGA web page on lakeashtonliving.com. This web page also includes LAMGA board contact information, the quarterly game schedule, and results of the 2025 MemberGuest tournament. Rule reminder: With the rainy season on the way, golfers may have to negotiate around standing water in bunkers. USGA rule 16.1c allows relief when your ball is in a bunker pool of water. (Pictured left: This bunker on No. 6 East would allow a ball in the water to be moved to a point on the left or right of the puddle and no nearer the hole.) You can place the ball within one club length of the nearest point of complete relief within the bunker, but no closer to the hole. You also can drop the ball back-on-the-line and outside the bunker, but with a one-stroke penalty. For more information, go to the USGA website at usga.org and search on Rule 16.1c. At the halfway point in the annual Red Hoagland Hyundai Challenge, here are the leaders: Pat O'Neil, $109.35; Denis Mulhearn and Steve Kettells, tied at $90.50; Jim Salb, $88.90. The Greens have just been aerated, please remember to repair any ball marks on the green, even if it is not yours. Also, don’t forget to fill divots with sand and rake the sand traps as needed.
