LA REPUBLICANS By Brenda Bush-Sayre The Lake Ashton Republican Club is holding a Firecracker Candidate Jamboree at the HFC on Saturday, July 9th from 4 to 7 pm. Candidates for the following positions will be participating: U.S. House Districts 15 & 18; FL Senate District 12; FL Commissioner of Agriculture; Polk County Commissioner; and Polk County School Board. Blackburn’s BBQ is catering the event and tickets can be purchased at the Clubhouse Activities Desk for $15 each. Arrangements are underway for local Judicial candidates to speak at an upcoming Monday Morning Coffee. The club extends a huge thank you to all of the LA residents who joined to view two showings of Dinesh D‘Souza’s “2,000 Mules” on June 6. Both showings were sold out so an encore showing is being planned. Contact: Brenda Bush-Sayre, (813)313-9911, bbs1954@icloud.com. LA ROCKERS By Connie Strassberg Summer is here and snowbirds are gone! A lot of LA activities are on hiatus, but not LA Rockers, who continue to meet in the HFC Community Center on alternate Wednesdays from 2 to 4 pm. If you are here and want to enjoy a lovely afternoon with a great group of people, try your hand at rock painting! Newcomers are always welcome and we will lend you the supplies you will need for your first meeting. Can't draw or paint - not a problem. Your efforts are guaranteed to bring a smile to someone's face (just check the mirror when you find a hidden rock). Please join on July 13 and 27. In order to attend, join the Facebook group "LA Rockers" or contact MJ Richards (mjmrichards517@gmail.com) or Connie Strassberg (cbs1949@aol.com). If the meeting has to be canceled at the last minute, a notice will be posted on the LA Rockers Facebook group page. If in doubt, check before you come. Please send prayers for Alice Mayer's continued recovery. SINGLES CLUB By Maureen Ziegler LA Singles is a social group that plans activities for single residents. The group meets monthly on the first Sunday of the month at 2 pm in the Clubhouse Ballroom. In June, the group discussed several outings and get togethers. Plans were discussed for dinner at Crazy Fish and lunch at L’Incontro. The group is purchasing gifts for five senior orphans. The names and lists were assigned. The gifts are to be brought to the July meeting. Donations will be used to purchase gift cards. If you would like to take part in activities with other singles, attend the meeting on July 3. LA SWIM CLUB By Sandy White LA Swim Club members want to share a secret. Please only tell your best friends. Swimming is the best all-around exercise for all ages because it: • Involves most of your muscles • Keeps your heart rate up while removing the impact of running or walking on hard surfaces • Builds endurance, muscle strength, and cardiovascular fitness no matter what age • Helps maintain a healthy weight and healthy lungs • Improves flexibility, coordination, balance, & posture • Offers low impact exercise which helps the recovery from many injuries and surgeries • Is a great way to keep fit & make new friends So, what are you waiting for? Come swim with us and improve your fitness level. The swim club has reserved three workout times each week: Mondays from 6 to 7 pm, Wednesdays from 1:45 to 2:45 pm, and Saturdays from 10 to 11 am. Come whenever you can. The volunteer coach provides a written workout that can be used in total or as a guide, and he can answer your swimming technique questions.
